I fucking hate the mall.
and small talk.

#1. Figure out why people feel the need to fill silence with small talk.

#2. Figure out how to make them stop.

#3.Figure out the difference between Minnesota nice and Southern hospitality.
(Just because I’m still confused about that as well…)

I think MN Nice is born out of the cold, and Southern Hospitality born out of the heat. Furthermore, MN Nice is a little bit faster than Southern Hospitality, which is slow and discreet. And beyond climatic differences, I also feel that the geography of a place lends itself quite well to shaping the idiosyncrasies of any culture. That being I said, I do believe that MN Nice is different in Bemidji than it is in Minneapolis; and Southern Hospitality is different in Atlanta than it is in Lubbock. But, I think more importantly, I have absolutely no evidence to support any of this.

I like it! My original guess was similar to what you’ve concluded here; that the differences in kindness evolve out of need and understanding that is within each individual community.

A Minnesota person would stop to help someone shovel out a car that went in the ditch,
a southern person would be the person in the ditch.

A Southern person would invite strangers over for a big, home-cooked meal,
a Minnesota person would be afraid of being exposed to an underground meth lab at a stranger’s house.

Thanks for the input, it’s definitely something to think about!
